Should you save or invest?
Really, it’s not a case of either/or, because saving is a type of investment and the words are sometimes used to mean the same thing. Using our financial planning knowledge, we’ll help you cut through the jargon and identify investments, products, and/or savings plans, that are right for you.
To get the best return on investment, the team at Milestone will help you build an investment portfolio around your life goals and figure out the best way to invest money. For example, if you want to take a regular flow of income from your investments, we’ll take a very different approach from someone who wants to aim for a large lump sum of money at a certain point in the future.
Within your investment plan, we’ll also factor in your attitude to risk (which should vary according to your stage of life). We’ll ensure any risk is properly managed so that your investments and savings deliver; giving you peace of mind for your future.

What is the difference between investing and saving?
As we mentioned previously, savings and investments both coincide, and it is not simply a case of one or the other.
To put it simply, savings can be defined as money put aside in small instalments to save up, usually for something specific such as a deposit for a house, a wedding, or holiday. It is also common for people to save money in case of an emergency, such as a repair on their house or losing their job, for example.
Investment, on the other hand, means putting your money into something in the hope that it will increase in value*. This investment could be in the form of bonds or shares in a company, for example. There is always an element of risk and reward when it comes to making such investments, which is why our financial planning advisers will discuss with you your attitude towards risk, whether investing is your best option, and if so what the best way to invest money is for you.
* The value of your investment can fall as well as rise and is not guaranteed.
